|
|
I am running Gnome3 with GDM. I have other DEs as well. Can't seem to get sound working in any DE, but I have sound in GDM. Not sure why. Is it becuase I need to add PulseAudio? I tried following the guide for PulseAudio, but I'm getting stuck on updating changed USE flags because of a blocked package. I get this:
Code: | Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild N ] sys-apps/sysvinit-2.88-r9 USE="(-ibm) (-selinux) -static"
[blocks B ] sys-apps/sysvinit ("sys-apps/sysvinit" is blocking sys-apps/systemd-236-r5)
* Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
* installed at the same time on the same system.

It looks like I have a newer version already installed, so it's blocking the installation of the older file. Correct? What do I need to do? I am a little confused by the handbook's page on blocked packages.

Correct? | No. You do not have any version of sys-apps/sysvinit installed (so if you installed it, it would be New). You cannot install it because you have sys-apps/systemd, so sys-apps/sysvinit is Blocked. For a GNOME3 user (excepting those following dantrell's overlay), having sys-apps/systemd installed is normal and expected. djentoo wrote: | What do I need to do? If I were to guess, you should not be installing sys-apps/sysvinit, so we need to figure out why Portage wants to do that. |

I was following the Pulseaudio guide and got stuck after the change use step.
Code: | emerge --ask --changed-use --deep @world |
wraeth in IRC suggested removing netifrc. That cleared the block, and I was able to install pulseaudio and alsa.
It appears I have sound now. |
