I normally am in my own little world I suppose. All this fuss over default options? Seems pretty noobish. I was annoyed that blake was added before 3.6 was really usable and gemato is not optional, but this is a whole another level. It's really easy to be an arm chair critic, vaguely describing past events in a tone to fit your narrative, but if you offer nothing constructive whatsoever along with your criticism, it really just comes off like a bunch of teenagers in a FUDD circle jerk to anyone from the outside looking in. As I've said elsewhere, I am terribly unhappy with the tree/overlay situation and elitist attitudes are the likely culprit, but what is the solution? Do you just want him gone or what? Maybe it was a self-fulfilling prophecy, but this does indeed resemble what happened with libav, except this is all talk and no patches, they would just go back forth about code quality. lol

Those 3 should never be reasons.

I agree. It's also the reasons people choose to not go outside.

If you live in a neighborhood where gunfire is near continuous (unfortunately some Chicago neighborhoods), not going outside is a real good idea. So is sleeping on the floor with armor between yourself and the wall.

The analogy? You have submitted bugs with patches and had them rejected out of hand as not being real or "unconfirmed" or "won't fix".
Why bother?

Well if upstream is brain-dead, then yeah…
Otherwise it's innocent until proven stupid.

Or sometimes upstream is just a bit slow ...

Hey at least they applied the patch. My first-ever open source contribution was ignored for more than a year and then it got the CADT treatment.

I know how that feels... A couple of months ago I received a bunch of CADT closing mails from KDE. Luckily all those bugs were really of no importance any more. But those "Hey, thanks for your research, but after ignoring it, we'll dump it now. k, thx, bye!" messages invoke a very sad feeling...

Usually, BSD. :)
(Feel free to DM me for further details - I can guess this would disrupt this topic even more.)
