I was trying to update a pretty much outdated system with:

Ok, I found this in the tail of the build log (which has 100 000+ lines, so putting it there would be impossible.) Seems like its missing 'GLIBC_2.15' while installing glibc-2.25 .. Can someone point out a reason why this is happening (maybe a solution how to fix it)
This update was made after a profile change from default/linux/amd64/13.0 to default/linux/amd64/17.0, may the problem come from that?
PS: I lowered the MAKEOPTS to -j1 and added swap space, thanks for pointing that out
Code: | /dev/shm/portage/sys-libs/glibc-2.25-r10/work/build-x86-x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-nptl/sunrpc/cross-rpcgen: /lib32/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.15' not found (required by /usr/lib32/libsandbox.so)

AFTER you switched the profile and BEFORE you started 'emerge -e world': did you perform the steps recommended in the news item?
Code: | Re-emerge, in this sequence, gcc, binutils, and glibc
emerge -1 sys-devel/gcc:6.4.0
emerge -1 sys-devel/binutils
emerge -1 sys-libs/glibc
|
If you haven't read the news item (2017-11-30-new-17-profiles) yet: please read it.
Furthermore: if you have a very old system, it may be helpful to update the system BEFORE you switch the profile. |

Neither of them works, because emerge tries to install glibc which fails with `GLIBC_2.15' not found
Code: | work ~ # strings /lib64/libc.so.6 | grep GLIBC
GLIBC_2.2.5

It seems that the GLIBC_2.15 is only present in /lib64/libc.so.6 but the installation requires it from /lib32/libc.so.6 which causes the `GLIBC_2.15' not found error.
How can I set which libc.so.6 will be used ? |

In this case, you cannot, because those two are not interchangeable. One is for 64-bit processes. The other is for 32-bit processes. If you did manage to force a 32-bit process to directly use the 64-bit libc, it would fail in some other way.
On principle, I am reluctant to recommend the below, but it might get you past this. It might have other unwanted side effects. That said, since your specific reported problem is that the sandbox cannot use your 32-bit libc, you could try disabling use of the sandbox for this one build. Generally, you should leave sandbox enabled unless you have a very good reason to disable it, which is why I dislike suggesting you disable it here. You could also try rebuilding sandbox if you have not done that, but I doubt that will help. |
