Ho voluto fare un backup prima di aggiornare portage e tutti i pacchetti, ho usato clonezilla in modalità beginner-mode per far prima. Il backup è andato a buon fine (in teoria). Ho riavviato il pc, ci ho lavorato qualche minuto, poi per curiosità ho provato a ripristinare l'immagine di backup precedentemente creata.

Risultato: non boota più, finisce in kernel panic subito dopo pochi istanti. Trascrivo le ultime righe prima che si pianti in eterno sull'ultima riga:

Non conosco clonezilla, quindi non sono in grado di aiutarti.
Per far ripartire gentoo, credo tu debba fare il boot da livecd (o similare, tipo sysrescuecd), fare chroot e ripristinare kernel e/o bootloader.
Per i backup di solito uso fsarchiver, che è compreso in sysrescuecd.

Sarebbe bello se fosse possibile :( purtroppo il filesystem su sdb4 JFS non viene montato restituendo errore (nn mi ricordo di preciso), col disco minimal di gentoo riesco cmq a montarlo ma non a fare il chroot in quanto mi restituisce un errore diverso: unable qualcosa /bin/bash ... stale filesystem, più o meno.

E' evidente che c'è qualche inode corrotto e che fsck non vede.

Cmq ho recuperato quanto basta per rifare l'installazione ex-novo: crontab, la lista dei pacchetti installati da me, la lista degli USE, il make.conf. Unico dubbio è per il kernel: la configurazione fatta a mano è salvata nel file System.map ??!

La configurazione del kernel potresti trovarla in /proc/config.gz, /usr/src/linux/.config e /etc/kernels/kernel-config-x86_64-qualchecosa a seconda di come è stato fatto il backup e/o compilato il kernel.
