Both my mouse and keyboard stop working after using startx on a fresh install.
I am using the libinput driver no evdev or synaptics with the nvidia proprietary driver.
make.conf
I used nvidia-xconfig to auto configure xorg.conf
xorg.conf
Even though I am only using one driver I thought explicitily telling xorg to use the libinput driver might make a difference, it ended up being pointless.

My Xorg log gives some hints: Not really sure what to make of them.

My thoughts after searching google and writing this are, all of this was auto configured, the only thing I really had control over was the kernel, I did go through it slowly to make sure each option was built in that I needed for Xorg and the Nvidia Proprietary driver. On the other hand I ran into this exact same problem on Slackware and I didnt touch the kernel at all. Finally when I compare the Xorg.log from the base system to the Xorg.log from the SystemRescueCD which using evdev as the default driver, maybe libinput just isnt good for my system. |

In xorg.conf, you should remove everything which is not related to the nvidia driver, especially the mouse and keyboard stuffs which doesn't use the same device files than in the libinput conf file. If that doesn't help, you can even remove the libinput conf file.
Also, to shift from libinput to evdev may help. I was reading somewhere (gentoo xorg wiki maybe) that evdev is the way to go in a modern system.
