After booting a live-cd on an Asus E200H, neither the keyboard (both X and without X) nor the touchpad work. I am completely clueless what to do because I cannot even run a few commands to track down the problem. Can it be that the problem is related to the fact that the keyboard is internally connected via i2c?

phara92,

Welcome to Gentoo

You can install Gentoo from any live media that works. None of the code on the boot media goes into your install.
You must boot a 64 bit kernel to perform a 64 bit install, that the only constraint.

Try System Rescue CD as starting point.
Its Gentoo based and has better hardware support than the Gentoo live CD.

If you have a USB mouse and keyboard, they would get you through the install.

Hmm, you mention X ... the Gentoo liveCD does not have X. Which liveCD are you using?

I recommend installing gentoo with the help of a puppy linux live USB/CD, you can easily chroot into your new install, while having a browser open reading the handbook.
