Hi and merry x-mas!

I've got a little bit of a problem. I don't know, what i should do. I looked everywhere and nothing.

I installed makemkv-1.6.16-r1 from the flow overlay. I made already 4 Blurays to mkv and watched em.

But now, when i start it, it says "This application version is too old. Please download the latest version at http://www.makemkv.com or enter a registration key to continue using the current version."
I tried then the registration key, which i got it from http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053. It says then "Thank you. Please restart the application for changets to take effect.".
I restart it, but no luck. It wants once again the key.

i tried to unmerge it, then emerge it. And nothing. I also emerged it from portage and nada.

Pls, Help me. I don't like (i hate it, actually) the br-player in windows.

nickel,

The free key is good for 30 days, unless you buy a key. You can't keep using a free key, that would defeat the purpose would.n't it?
We can't help you break the terms of the licence here.

thx for the answer.

The key, while makemkv is in beta, is free. I read about it in the forum of the makemkv.com. And there isn't a link, option, or whatever to do so anywhere in their homepage. Believe me, i was going to buy one. It is a pretty cool software.

Anyway, since the counter is hardcoded and it is a binary. meaning i can't edit the source code, i modified the ebuild instead. I changed it from 1.6.16 to 1.7.0. And now, it works.
I'm not doing anything ilegal. The program is free to download.

nickel,

Thats fine.
The website warns that old versions may need a paid for key.
I think thats so they don't get bug reports about old versions - it encorages you to update.

but you can't buy one. Take a look in www.makemkv.,com.

The new version resets or extends, for that manner, the counter. You can see it in ~/.MakeMKV/update.conf

Since this zombie got bumped, I might as well post the correct info:

* Set app_UpdateEnable = "0" in ~/.MakeMKV/settings.conf to disable auto-update checks so you can still use current one
* MakeMKV for Linux is free while in beta
* Upstream has a prod key for users - http://www.makemkv.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1053
* Notes about the key will be displayed on emerge.
* See Gentoo wiki for more information about Blu-rays - https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Blu-ray
