I upgraded to the latest cinnamon-3.6.6-r2 to workaround this problem: https://bugs.gentoo.org/646186

However, now I cannot automount USB from the filebrowser. I get the error "Not authorized to perform operation".

I have a feeling it has something to do with the introduction of policykit or elogind? I'm not sure what is going on, but I thought I was running consolekit before. Do I have to switch something around and get rid of consolekit to have automount USB working again?

Alright, so from that I understand to remove consolekit and replace it with elogind. How does polkit relate to all of this? Do I need to remove this as well?

polkit is helpless if it does not get a working session, be it from consolekit, elogind or systemd.

Thanks, I followed the wiki page and it looks like I can automount my USB drives again. Although I have introduced a new problem. Started a new topic here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1077274.html
