It really shouldn't be all that hard to rip and MP3 encode music (and, yes, I prefer ogg but my car doesn't.)
* grip is ancient and not maintained. However, it will rip and encode disks -- but only one track at a time.
* sound-juicer is OK except it won't do MP3
* ripperx looks nice but refuses to look up tracks on cddb, reporting errors where others are fine.
This isn't quite enough to get me to install the entire KDE hairball again. But it's still annoying and surely, surely, someone must have a working pipe for xfce? |

overshoot,
grip rips whole disks and encodes them in a couple of clicks.
You get the individual tracks. _________________ Regards,

It's supposed to -- but always stops after one track. No clues. (And, yes, all tracks selected.) |

What exactly do you mean by that? It seems we lack context here. |

KDE's ripper/encoder worked nicely but (gack) the disappearing functionality while the footprint exploded finally got to be too much so I bailed at the 4-5 switch. Would have been happy to keep 3, actually -- it was a genuine improvement over 2 and 1, but water under the bridge and all that.
So here I am with grip deciding to become a single-track ripper (whether grip or cdparanoia I have no clue) and the others refusing various stages of the process. Time was I would have enjoyed the challenge of debugging them, but age and other responsibilities won out. So, hey, if someone has seen these symptoms I'll run with the fixes and if another ripper works adequately I'll use that. Otherwise, I can manage to hit a button every time the drive stops but would rather not. |

Same. I use it for my MP3s. I recommend using id3v2 over eyeD3 though, because eyeD3 likes to not tag stuff and not tell you.
Here's my .abcde.conf if it helps.
Code: | CDDBMETHOD=cddb
CDDBPROTO=5
CDDBCOPYLOCAL="y"
CDDBLOCALDIR="$HOME/.cddb"
NOSUBMIT=y
CDDBUSELOCAL="y"
