What is the status of LMS in Gentoo? Still alive and usable via some healthy overlay, or gone?

gone so far as I know

but (a big but); if you just download it, unpack and run slimserver it
runs perfectly (I run it in a screen session)

still an extremely good network music server IMO

as prekog'd, the package from squeezbox overlay isn't healthy (does not coordinate with the rest of the system as often is the case with overlays)

As of now, the mediaserver is running and responsive, but there is no logging, (logs are empty), and no database connection, so adding music is actually not possible. Other tthan that, the server seems fine and finds my player as well.

Can it be repaired, if so, how?

for now, i have to run the windows *.exe via wine. I can almost hear Ltd. Whorf: 'You are *not* worthy!'

Writing logs under /opt is a bit unusual, and apparently is not allowed under your current permissions. That is likely why you have no logs, at least according to the logs you showed here. Fix the path to write the logs to a location that the program is permitted to write.

I agree.

I tried to specify another place for the log in the conf-file. It still doesn't write logs, but otherwise it connects to sqlite3 and works seemingly ok for now. Strange, but ... whatever.
