i have systemd machine, i tried initramfs created by dracut, and also tried initramfs created by genkernel-next (kernel configured manually), and both of them boot perfectly.
Is there any differences between initramfs created by dracut vs genkernel-next? which of them is preferred? |

I think there are slight differences in how the initramfs is built by these tools, but in common cases these differences are not apparent. You would have to go for something slightly more exotic, like root-on-ZFS and/or full drive encryption.
Genkernel is the default approach per the Gentoo Handbook, because it also facilitates building the Linux kernel with a set of "sane defaults". _________________ Geek on! |
