Today we released slotted Wine into the wild (4d668badf1494663dd84e8860aefa55ed8a0fda7).

Special thanks go to Eroen and NP-Hardass for all the hard work they etched on this, as well as everyone who put time into testing and reporting things and stuff!

For details about the changes, one may peruse our wiki article, Wine: New Packaging.

Some questions may have been already answered in wine: questions on recent changes.

Please feel free to use this topic for any questions, and/or issues related to this change in particular.

Thank you!

Edit:

Indeed, thanks to all the people involved!

Change Unveiled to Unleashed in the title, making it more accurate.

Current known issues: sys-apps/portage: redundant package pulled in for || ( foo bar ) gorp? ( bar baz )

More thanks to Eroen for his initial groundwork, and to all the users who tested and helped us make it to this point :)

[edit]
Just an aside, due to a quirk in how Portage handles dependencies, the virtual is accidentally trying to pull in multiple versions of wine, where you only want one. We are aware and working toward fixing it satisfactorily. For the moment, emerge --oneshot wine-<variant-you-want> and then emerge virtual/wine which will be properly satisfied

It's been years since I messed with Wine. I keep a lab of gaming rigs (ten identical rigs) at home with 7 Pro 64bit on them for gaming. With more games moving to Linux (thanks, Steam/Valve!) maybe I can get my fix between Wine and Steam.

Beware old wine in new bottles.

Sorry, couldn't resist temptation. Moderator, feel free to delete.
