Got a strange issue. I am building a new kernel for my laptop and want to integrate the microcode update, but three updates have the same date and version, but the mask is different. I assume that this means these each affect a different "thing" on the CPU. One may fix an FPU bug, one may fix an exploit, and one may fix something else. Is this correct? Should I do all three, or am I mistaken?
Code: |
9y84mj1 /usr/src/linux # iucode_tool -S -l /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/*
iucode_tool: system has processor(s) with signature 0x0001067a
...
microcode bundle 34: /lib/firmware/intel-ucode/06-17-0a
...
selected microcodes:
...
034/001: sig 0x0001067a, pf_mask 0xa0, 2010-09-28, rev 0x0a0b, size 8192
034/002: sig 0x0001067a, pf_mask 0x44, 2010-09-28, rev 0x0a0b, size 8192
034/003: sig 0x0001067a, pf_mask 0x11, 2010-09-28, rev 0x0a0b, size 8192

So should I do all three or should I only do one and if so, which one and why?
*UPDATE*
Please disregard this. I am an idiot before I have my coffee. I include the directory "intel-ucode/06-17-0a" and it applies them all. Apparently my CPU had a few bugs it needed to have fixed. Thanks for reading, but this was a dumb post on my part. I realized what I had asked just after drinking a few sips from my hot coffee. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |
