|
|
Just got a brand new desktop a few weeks ago. AMD Ryzen 5 1600X 6-core 3.6Ghz CPU. 4GB NVIDIA Geforce GTC 1050 Ti Graphics. Noticed a couple random freezes where the screen would still display but mouse and keyboard would have no response. Just now experienced a random reboot. UEFI system. Checked /var/log/messages for hints, here are some things I found. Could they be the cause, and what do they mean?
Code: | Dec 12 21:27:29 dooby kernel: [ 8.527401] NVRM: Your system is not currently configured to drive a VGA console
Dec 12 21:27:29 dooby kernel: [ 8.527401] on the primary VGA device. The NVIDIA Linux graphics driver
Dec 12 21:27:29 dooby kernel: [ 8.527401] requires the use of a text-mode VGA console. Use of other console
Dec 12 21:27:29 dooby kernel: [ 8.527401] drivers including, but not limited to, vesafb, may result in
Dec 12 21:27:29 dooby kernel: [ 8.527401] corruption and stability problems, and is not supported.

One thing you may want to keep an eye on, (hopefully is not the issue), if the system is overheating or not. I have experienced multiple times where the system locks up and/or restarts due to overheating. Another possibility could be an hardware issue. My lasts system had it in that it would lock up and reboot on me for no apparent reason, which ended up being a case of one of my memory sticks completely failing (that stick as a whole ended up failing to where the system wouldn't boot with it in). |

Just hung again today and as the Christmas period cools down I decided to do another pastebin with a bit more context: https://pastebin.com/EhQHCxVn
Chiitoo's issue (https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196683) does indeed match my case. I will attempt the workarounds and attempt to get a week long uptime before I mark this as solved. _________________ thinkMoult - I write articles online. You might like some of them.

Which AGESA are you running with?
I got my post 25-week Ryzen finally some time ago, and haven't had any (hard) freezes with this:
Code: | PRIME X370-A BIOS 3401
Update to AGESA 1071 for new upcoming processors |
I do however get mini-freezes (around 5 seconds) of the whole desktop (audio keeps going), but I'm not sure it's Ryzen-related...
Tends to happen when there is an SDL-using game running, and I play video stuff. Or some similar things (any hover-tips like from Steam, or LXQt seem to often trigger it). _________________ Kindest of regardses. |

Solved by disabling state C6 manually with zenstates.py script on the kernel bug page. No more hangs to report. _________________ thinkMoult - I write articles online. You might like some of them.
