Hello again lovely helper,
first of all sorry, I am barley noob.
But I am good at learning and always want to be independent, so pls do not worry, starting.
my USE="..." is maybe a way to much?
I read everything about, most of it supports audit-function and stuff,
I decide to -gtk, because I do not interest in KDE, but I want to install bspwm,
could somebody draw my attation to the right ponits, or maybe
give me some hints?
could i remove more than gtk an may qt3 qt5?
dvdr and stuff i do may like to have and all auditthings too...
because i dont want to increase the compile time up to nowhere...you know.
thank you very

Usually I keep use flag provided by profile and if for a package I need a specific use flag for a package I use /etc/portage/package.use.
Because I use plasma 5 I enabled globally qt5 and kde. _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

Algori,

Your logic is faulty. USE=gtk includes optional support for the Gnome Tool Kit. Its unlikely that KDE uses that, they have qt.
USE flags can be set in several places. At the top level, USE flags are set in your profile, so if you want KDE, choose a profile that has KDE in its name.
Many use flags will then be like baby bears porridge, just right.
After your profile is selected, you fine tune USE flags in make.conf. USE flags do not need to be set in both places.
thats a Use Flag EDitor that can change make.conf if you allow it.
For completeness, its possible to set USE flags on a per package basis too.
Homework:
Run this will show all the USE flags from your profile and make.conf.
Now comment out the USE in make.conf, so its ignored. You will put it back later.
Run again. This will show the USE flags from your profile only, as there are none in make.conf.
Look at the differences. They are the only ones that you need to set (or clear) in make.conf _________________ Regards,

Algori,
There will be some harmless redundant entries.
Your homework would show you which ones but its not important. _________________ Regards,

Instead of the homework, one can also just use the mentioned ufed: It shows which flags are set in the profile and which are overridden by your make.conf. You can simply switch off those USE-flags whose display changes in ufed from [+] (set in make.conf) over [-] (explicitly unset in make.conf) to (+) (not modified by make.conf but default set in profile). If it changes instead to ( ) (not set in make.conf but also no default set in profile) and you want it globally, you should keep it set to [+].
Be aware that ufed does care about the package-specific settings from package.use which override your choice, in general. |
