Hi,
I run gentoo as virtualbox guest with xfce4 desktop, kernel-4.16.6, xorg-1.19 and vbox-guest-additions-5.2.
Slim refuse to login in xfce otherwise i can login in console with startxfce4. The message is : impossible to contact configuration server, connection refused

I believe that you have edited your slim.conf...

This should be the default.

I solved my problem after adding
Code:

exec ck-launch-session dbus-launch startxfce4

im my .xinitrc

Slim works perfectly now.
