Hey guys new user here, I'm wondering why after I've installed PAVUCONTROL that the "Configuration" tab is empty as well as output devices[it only shows a dummy output], why is that? Why doesn't it show me the sound devices available? Odd..
I am pretty sure the driver is working right, here's an output for lspci -nnk

I can open up ALSAMIXER and I can see my audio device HDA intel in the sound card options, so I think it works, but I just don't know why pavucontrol isn't showing this stuff.

I've got emerge running a command right now, I can give you the output as soon as it finishes... But that might take a while! Its been going since this morning, its at 28/33 right now.
I'm running an intel atom N270 i686 Dell Inspiron Mini 10v (1011) @ 1.6GHz dual-core, 2GB DDR2 RAM. Its a tad bit slow compiling stuff but it runs nicely with Gentoo, seems much smoother than binary distros.
I've got an issue with my Bluetooth also in case anyone would like to take a look at that.

I tried enabling a few more flags, jack, qt4, realtime, and one or two other ones, I looked into what they do and I think they sound good. I really like this package search website thing Gentoo has!
9/9 installed, re-compiling PulseAudio as we speak.
edit: ok so the compiling finished, but why is emerge spamming the letter y in my terminal??? I hit ctrl+c and it stopped....

and it just goes on and on and on, it seemed like it wasn't gonna stop so I hit ctrl+c, I'm gonna try to re-emerge pulseaudio just to be safe.
edit: I've re-emerged it but for whatever reason the stupid input/outputs are missing from pavucontrol... I don't get it! I've compiled it with gtk and qt4 support, what gives?! |

What alternatives do I have though??? Can I use my bluetooth headphones without pulseaudio??? I prefer pavucontrol to control my sound, I don't know how pavucontrol could be a resource hog considering its just an interface to change my volume and default output/etc...
This is starting to feel pretty hopeless.
I'm giving up, sorry for wasting everyones' time but this just isn't going to work.. I've tried everything I can think of... Gentoo isn't for me, too many problems. Bluetooth and sound should JUST WORK, I shouldn't have to go through SO MUCH SHIT to make basic functions work.
If someone actually wanted to help me, this stuff would've been solved. I give up, bye. You guys can have my account deleted or whatever. |

Did you run emerge update? AFAIK this is not Gentoo command . Similar command exists in Sabayon - binary distro based on Gentoo.
I have already asked you. Are you OpenRC or systemd user? And what kind of profile you use? And pls send |

Almost certainly. PulseAudio manages audio multiplexing, volume, and other tasks, but is not inherently responsible for sound emission. You can let ALSA generate sound directly or you can let PulseAudio serve as a gatekeeper to ALSA. I think quite a few people wanted to help you. You have not made this easy for would-be helpers, so I'm actually quite pleased that so many people stepped up to try to help you. If you some day reconsider, I suspect people will welcome you back and make another effort to assist you.
Accounts are not deleted, as that would orphan your posts and cause confusion later if anyone else tried to use that name. In general, threads are only deleted if they are contrary to forum rules. Failure to solve your particular problem does not invalidate the advice given to you, so the threads will remain in the hope that they are useful to later users with similar problems. Jaglover's most recent response is a perfect example of this: topical advice, useful to people interested in a related topic, and likely to remain valid and useful for a long time. |
