Is there a way, or could there be made a way to store which modules are to be recompiled when a new kernel is installed? Things like ALSA, lm-sensors, and I don't know what more (and that is the problem)
Is there an utility that keeps track of such packages, or is it up to the user to know which one should be re-emerged?
Thanks,
Hertog |

I am not aware of a mechanism for ebuilds to register that they need to be rebuild when a new kernel is installed.
However, I have a hunch that, now that the nvidia-kernel ebuild has been made immune to reinstallations of kernels with the same version, that the other ebuilds may follow suit, so this problem should become less in the future. Of course, if you install a completely new kernel version, the tactic used by the nvidia-kernel won't work.
sisob has posted a script that attempts to address this problem here, and if you have suggestions for improving it (such as adding lm-sensors), please do so. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |
