Since it decriminalised all drugs in 2001, Portugal has seen dramatic drops in overdoses, HIV infection and drug-related crime.

Same here, not in the British sense, but just in the non-thinking prude sense.

I'm only okay with unrestricted drug use if welfare entitlements are reined in.

I also want to see more research into SSRIs.

Putting the WoD money into various forms of treatment would likely be more beneficial.

That, and a whole slew of vested interests have cropped up around the drug war. A whole load of cops, lawyers, judges, prisons, and private businesses that support them would have far less business if the war on drugs was ended. The war on drugs is basically a multi-class jobs programme at this point and nobody wants to take away the money trough.

Treat it as a health care problem. Save billions in policing. You'll have a Scrooge McDuck kind of vault to spend on anything.

Vested interests keep most stupid policies going. Create a policy, no matter how stupid, and someone will adapt and make money.

Because it's bullshit. The truth is that since they decriminalized it, they're not measuring as much. It doesn't have to be reported anymore. No more noise complaints? Must mean there's no more noise.
