QT has not updated webkit for a while (it identifies as version 534.34, 6 years old?), thats the reason why some distributions already bundle a different qtwebkit.

For gentoo its as easy as coping that ebuild to an overlay, create manifest and emerge it.
Its a drop in replacement of the QT version.

For me its working fine, even though its still a alpha2 release.
Webkit is now identifing as version 602.1!

Anybody else testing it?

How fast is the new qtwebkit?

6 years old would be 2011 which is my favorite generation for browsers. Firefox/Seamonkey had full CSS2 support and used 1/3 the amount of RAM and CPU as they did in 2015 onward.

Chrome switched to their own renderer called blink in 2013 which is faster than Gecko (Mozilla/Firefox) but RAM usage is still through the roof.

qtwebengine is Blink-based (CEF to be exact), so installing it gets you similar to what installing a modern Chromium does. qtwebkit, even the updated version mentioned above, is based off the Safari fork. Depending on who you ask, one or the other is worse with supporting web standards...

QtWebEngine is pretty much a stripped-down Chromium wrapped around with a Qt API. An application using it will spawn a QtWebEngineProcess subprocess plus another child process for every page rendered, just like Chromium, which makes it more secure if you're using it to access untrusted pages.
https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/qtwebengine-overview.html

QtWebKit is the version that was part of Qt since 2008, long before QtWebEngine existed. It runs in the same process.

Thanks,
it is just that I felt that everything is being migrated to qtwebengine, and qtwebkit being obsolete. I guess they both are still in the game

Qtwebengine is still lacking kwallet integration.
It also does not work with links like "https://forums.gentoo.org/search.php?search_id=newposts". I always have to manually click the link on the forum.
Also the back button is sometimes not working but jumping to the last homepage instead of the previous page.
man pages are not displayed as well.

...to be continued

I wonder if you, like me, are opening the links in a new tab. My guess is web engine somehow amends the cursor position when you're opening in a new tab; I find it opens the correct link if I just click to open in the same tab.
