installed 4.14.1 and restarted to find upsdrv not working:

Code:
 /etc/init.d/upsdrv restart
 * Starting UPS drivers ...
Network UPS Tools - UPS driver controller 2.7.4
Network UPS Tools - Generic HID driver 0.41 (2.7.4)
USB communication driver 0.33
No matching HID UPS found
Driver failed to start (exit status=1)
 * Failed to start UPS drivers!                                                                                                                                                                                                    [ !! ]
 * ERROR: upsdrv failed to start

USB_HID is still set in the new kernel config

lsusb finds the ups:

Code:
Bus 007 Device 002: ID 0764:0501 Cyber Power System, Inc. CP1500 AVR UPS

the cyber power udev rules still exist in /lib64/udev/rules.d ...

anyone else seen this or know a fix?

replying to myself ('cause no one else will :wink: )

I finally got around to looking into this

a simple udev rule change of permissions was the fix, as per

Your 4.14.1 kernel is stable? On what ARCH?

On an x86 complied with gcc 7 4.14.2-3 either panic on boot or within a day. ppc won't even compile.

My solution consisted in adding user 'nut' to group 'usb'.

now using 4.14.8-r1 and it seems very stable
my AMD64 system is an unholy mixture of stable and ~amd64
