Hello!

I have an odd issue. It takes anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes for my wifi to start working when I boot up. After that it's completely fine, but it's an irritating problem.

When I do ifconfig, I only get enp0s25 and lo until the wifi starts, then wlp3s0 appears. I'm using gnome and the wifi symbol doesn't begin to appear until the wifi starts.

My wifi card is an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300

Here's the output of my lspci:

Code:
00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor DRAM Controller (rev 09)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09)
00:14.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller (rev 04)
00:16.0 Communication controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family MEI Controller #1 (rev 04)
00:16.3 Serial controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family KT Controller (rev 04)
00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 04)
00:1a.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #2 (rev 04)

00:1c.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 1 (rev c4)
00:1c.1 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 2 (rev c4)
00:1c.2 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family PCI Express Root Port 3 (rev c4)
00:1d.0 USB controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 (rev 04)
00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation QM77 Express Chipset LPC Controller (rev 04)
00:1f.2 SATA controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series Chipset Family 6-port SATA Controller [AHCI mode] (rev 04)
00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SMBus Controller (rev 04)
02:00.0 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd MMC/SD Host Controller (rev 07)
03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 (rev 3e)

I've got Intel Wireless WiFi Next Gen AGN - Wireless-N/Advanced-N/Ultimate-N (iwlwifi) enabled in the kernel. I mean, I have a lot enabled in the kernel but I'm kind of a noob so I'm not sure if anything else is relevant.

I'm on kernel version 4.12.12.

I'm using NetworkManager as I couldn't get anything else to work :x

I hope that's enough information to get the ball rolling, let me know if there's anything else I could provide that might help.

Thank you!

Would you prefer the Windows approach where the desktop isn't shown until everything has finished loading? The way that wireless networking works means that initial connections take some time. An ssd booting a lean OS is going to out run it and present you with a usable system without networking.

It is unlikely that you can do much about this. You may be able to add network manager as a service during boot up, but it is likely started already to satisfy networking requirements. Ifconfig only shows active interfaces. If you want to see all interfaces you need to use the -a flag.

You can also check /var/log/messages for errors but I doubt you will find any.
