Hello World,

I wish to have the possibility for giving a donation directly at the thread or in user profile, if I get good help from somebody here in the gentoo forum.

A few people like NeddySeagoon or fedeliallalinea do sooo good work and save me much hours, even when they are not answer directly. I often find solutions here from the past and it would be nice to have a button (donate 1/5/10/50 $€ ) when somebody rescued my life (my gentoo). I'm sure they spent many hours to have got so smart.

Please implement this - I think it would be used from many others too.

Many thanks
best regards
Andy

I think, even thou it's a good (and kind/generous) thought, the best donation is to begin learning and then begin contributing to the forums/wiki/handbook. So people give you the time, and you can give it back, with time as currency.

No one is an expert from day one, i'm certainly not, but keep learning stuff. When i first started out with *nix i didn't have a clue about anything, even struggling with a full graphical installer and likewise. Even i have managed to help people out, even with my limited knowledge been using Linux as daily only since a couple of years back. So of you are willing to learn, you'll be able to learn other.

Waterdevil,

Krinn beat me to it.

Gentoo is a community driven distro. Its a community where everyone is somebody elses expert.
Join in. If you are not sure of an answer, check before you post.
You don't even need whole answers, a lot of users only need a pointer in the right direction.

The hard bit is pitching the help just beyond the users reach, no so far as to put them off but far enough so that they can't just copy/paste commands.
Its teaching fishing, rather than handing out fish.

Thank you for your kind thoughts but believe it or not, I help here for fun.

There are lots of ways you can give back to the community without ever touching an ebuild.
Help out on #gentoo at irc.freenode.net. Improve the wiki at wiki.gentoo.org ...

I think the biggest reward is watching the people you help over time improve their skills, so they are able to help themselves, and then start to help others in the forums.

I was from 1979 till 2006 developer (or better nerd) with Unix 7, SYS/V, BSD, SCO, SunOS, HP-UX, AIX in a big government computation center with hundreds of servers and 80.000 PC's... In 1987 I ran Minix later Linux, SuSE. I was years 10 hours in my office plus 8-12 hours a day at home at the pc programming or with games... No much sleeping. I wrote one-line device drivers in assembler in the shell with pipe. I was proud to know one or more programming languages starting with each letter of the alphabet.

Now the developer accumulator is leaking and empty.

I feel embarrassed to wish so often support. And in my "normal" life there is no time to give so much support back. I have changed to work with people!

It is like to be clean from alcohol (pc) - one should not try a glass again.

I hope you can accept.
