I have 2 problems.
1. I can't use startx or startkde to start Plasma5. It shows "$DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server. "

2. I can start sddm to start plasma5 without any problem. But recently, after I did some updating, I failed to start any program after Plasma 5 starts with sddm. I tried to launch firefox-bin and terminator in the terminator which starts with the system. It returns

Code:
xxx ~ $ terminator
No protocol specified
/usr/lib64/python2.7/site-packages/gtk-2.0/gtk/__init__.py:57: GtkWarning: could not open display
  warnings.warn(str(e), _gtk.Warning)
You need to run terminator in an X environment. Make sure $DISPLAY is properly set

xxx ~ $ firefox-bin
No protocol specified
Error: cannot open display: :0

To solve the 2nd problem, I have to stop the xdm in the tty0 and restart xdm again. Then all works fine.

Does anyone know how to solve this kind of problem?
Thank you

I think I have solved the 2nd problem. I just deactivate the option "restore previous session" choose, start empty session. It's working well now. "Restore previous session" worked fine before. No idea what's changed.

for the 1st question, I copied the Xorg log below
