Hi

It's been over 5 weeks since my last eix-sync and once again I'm having trouble doing an uvDN world update.

I've already tried "--backtrack=300 --with-bdeps=y" and even higher backtrack numbers, the errors are the same.

My zlib is already at =sys-libs/zlib-1.2.11-r1 (eix shows 1.2.11(0/1) 1.2.11-r1(0/1) as available versions)

what should I do to fix these problems?

Thanks

Looks like the cache is corrupt. This might help to rebuild the cache.
Code:
emaint sync -A

Why do you think this is cache corruption? The output provided looks like the standard fallout from the ill-considered zlib subslot change. If so, the fix is to rebuild the packages that depend on the old zlib subslot, or to cheat by changing the Portage database to claim that such a rebuild was done, since in this case no subslot change was necessary because the new zlib uses the same soname as the old one.

I think https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Project:Portage/FAQ#What_should_I_do_when_emerge_reports_a_lot_of_dependency_conflicts_involving_built_slot-operator_.28foo.2Fbar:X.2FY.3D.29_dependencies.3F should here help.

And please make first a sys-apps/portage update to current latest stable (2.3.13-r1)-version.

In my eyes, it looked like eix was looking for a file that was not in its database. From the slot change zlib I did not notice. But I think an emaint sync can never hurt, even if it's not suitable for this zlib problem.

Hu! Please can you specifically say, how pablo_supertux gets his system clean again?

best regards
Ma

Thanks you for your answers.

This seems to have fixed my problems. Yesterday after 2 hours I made again an rsync (could have been some error in my zlib ebuild) and then I saw a message that a newer version of portage was available. So I updated portage and after that the error were gone.

There are no messages from eix in OP's post. He ran an eix command, which ran emerge, and emerge printed the error messages.

It may not hurt, but it won't help. Worse, threads with a non-zero number of replies are not considered "unanswered", so the first response to a thread needs to be important: either a request for information that is likely to be necessary for solving the problem or, if possible, a solution in its own right.

As I said above, rebuild the packages that depend on zlib. Cheating works in this case, but it's bad practice and can make things worse if done improperly.

I absolutely recommend cheating in this case, the zlib subslot thing was a mistake that never should have entered the tree in the first place and the person responsible ought to be stripped of their commit privileges and publically flogged. If you go ahead and rebuild everything blindly, you've just burned a hundred CPU-hours for absolutely nothing.

See here for the quick fix, and don't forget to let the PR author know what you think: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/5635#issuecomment-331686155
