As a result of some recent issues I had (rather long involved story about an accidental glibc upgrade), I ended up having to (temporarily) modify one of the eclass files in my local portage tree to get something to merge. To my surprise, I got no complaint from portage about the modification at all.

I'm rather curious as to why this is (it doesn't really make sense to me to checksum ebuilds but not eclasses), and was wondering if anyone here might know the answer since I can't seem to find it anywhere online.
