I just found out some of updates killed hplip. Not sure, which one, it was working a month ago. The stable hplip does not compile, the latest 3.17.10 builds, but printing stops with errors.

Is it possible to get it working in a ~amd64 system?

Last hplip I built was 3.16.3 was on x86, however this was over a year ago, and I think it works (remote install, people who actually use the printer had no complaints.)

The machine is probably due for a sync soon, I bet it will break, thanks for the heads up.

Could you post the error that you see (and emerge --info) since now you're making me hesitant to break that box? :D

I'll try a --buildpkgonly to see if stable still builds... bear with this 1.5GHz Celeron-M however...

Then again the amd64 beat the celeron and was able to build net-print/hplip-3.16.3 just fine. I noted that it used g++ so I hope there wasn't any gcc-5.4 issues (and I'm still on gcc-4.9 on my amd64 boxes) ... Hplip also has a lot of python (think all the GUI is python) so that wouldn't need to be compiled.

Code:
HP_LaserJet_Pro_MFP_M127fn: /usr/lib64/libqpdf.so.18: version `LIBQPDF_18\' not found (required by HP_LaserJet_Pro_MFP_M127fn)

This is the error that stops the printing. Needless to say, /usr/lib64/libqpdf.so.18 is there, installed. When I run hp-doctor it simply hangs, although ^C terminates it.

Hmm. I'm still using qpdf-5.1.1-r1 (that generates libqpdf.so.13), but don't now if, though seriously doubt, that really is the issue...

Code:
hp-doctor[7577]: debug: Searching for file(s) 'sane.h' in '/usr/include' that contain 'extern SANE_Status sane_init'...

This is where hp-doctor stops. There is sane.h, sane_init is not in it. But then again, scanning works. :?

Try rebuilding net-print/cups-filters

Thanks! What do you know, it works now. Problem solved. hp-doctor still hangs looking for non-existing sane string, but who cares. Scanning works.
