q: Updating ebuild cache in /usr/portage ...
This updating the ebuild cache. This cache is used for the q-tools from the app-portage/portage-utils package.
Example:
Code:
qfile /etc/portage/repo.postsync.d/q-reinit
app-portage/portage-utils (/etc/portage/repo.postsync.d/q-reinit)

But, for what is your link?

I believe the URL is to the mirror they use for syncing the tree, and they figured they'd mention it in case it mattered. :]

I noticed those 2 new messages too.
Code:
q: Updating ebuild cache in /usr/portage ...
q: Finished 38690 entries in 0.172898 seconds

I run "emaint sync -a" from as cronjob and normal output is send to dev/null.
Sadly those 2 message does not seem to be send to stdout (which in itself is bad !)
So I get a mail from cron every time the tree is syncd.
I don't want to redirect stderr to dev/null .... is there any other way to get rid of those messages ?

It's a message from q that is run by /etc/portage/repo.postsync.d/q-reinit which is run after every --sync.
Do what you want with that file.

Thx for getting me on the right track.
Found out q --reinitialize has an option run quiet.
Code:
q ${PORTAGE_QUIET:+-q} --reinitialize="${repository_path}"

Sadly emaint sync does not have such an option so it is not possible to carry over.
I had to hardcode the call to:
Code:
q -q --reinitialize="${repository_path}"

Everything is fine now :).
