Has anyone tried out the Cliqz browser? https://cliqz.com/en/ and https://github.com/cliqz-oss/browser-f

Since Cliqz is now owned by Mozilla, I wonder what it's relationship with firefox will be, will it eventually replace it? And is it genuinely privacy centred as it claims?

I didn't know Cliqz. But I'm sceptical : the site claims that the browser saves your privacy, but encourages you to install Ghostery...

Ghostery no longer works in the current Firefox, and there seem to be no plans to get it to do so, which is one reason I wondered if Mozilla might be planning to replace Firefox - Cliqz has bought Ghostery (see https://www.ghostery.com/blog/ghostery-news/ghostery-acquired-cliqz/) so I believe Ghostery itself is now indirectly owned by Mozilla.

Ghostery is the problem, not the solution : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostery#Criticism

The link you gave is interesting, by the way :

Ghostery and Cliqz will continue to work closely with our previous parent company, Evidon, to help the organization support its industry-leading Digital Governance solutions by continuing to provide the same aggregated tracker data that we have previously.

Evidon offers the industry standard, patent-protected Ad Choices compliance solution across the whole ecosystem. Our dynamic tag seamlessly delivers across all devices and platforms. Evidon Ad Notice gives consumers transparency into the data you collect and control over the ads you serve, instilling trust in your data practices.

Are you really sure our privacy is their main goal ?

No, I'm not, which is why I asked:

But I also use Firefox as my main browser, and am concerned that Mozilla may be intending to push Clickz as a replacement for Firefox, or to push Clickz features into Firefox. Otherwise why would they have bought a competitor to their main product?

In which case I'm wondering what the alternatives are (for me, not Chrome, again on privacy grounds). I used to use Konqueror once, but that was a long time ago.

Some time later...
https://blog.mozilla.org/press-uk/2017/10/06/testing-cliqz-in-firefox/

But its still just an uninstallable addon. (And I hope gentoo does not install it by default.)
