Anyone know how to install VMware vmrc on a fairly normal / up-to-date gentoo box?
VMWare has a bundled installer that throws their binary in /usr/bin and expects it to just work. On my box it segfaults.
Thanks for any hints, ideas or experience. |

It's a downloaded installer. I don't know of an ebuild or an overlay for this package. If there is an ebuild or overlay somewhere I am willing to try it.
With vmware ESXi server, from each virtual machine console menu, there is an option to "Download VMRC", which sends you to the vmware website. There you can download the remote console package for either Windows, Mac, or Linux. They don't really tell you what Linux distro, but I have used it successfully on ubuntu 16.04. Note the ubuntu was already a VM guest on my gentoo host. I would rather have a native gentoo remote console. |
