I have followed the Handbook to install the X server, but it seems it either crashes, hangs or it cannot find the mouse and keyboard.
When testing with xterm and twm three twm windows are displayed, but no keyboard and mouse.
Both of them do work in the console, with GPM https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/GPM

I haved tried multiple combinations of INPUT_DEVICES and VIDEO_CARDS values, the outcome is the same.
The current configuration I am using now is the defaults for both flags.

Please find my current make.conf below:
http://dpaste.com/3ZWTEF9

Please find the current Xorg.0.log:
http://dpaste.com/2HCEY8T

It seems to stop before adding the devices.

When running
Code:

X -configure

I get the following output:
http://dpaste.com/275FV48

Could please help me with a lead on how to investigate this issue or what other information I could use?

Thank you!

Hey,
welcome!

At first: Please use wgetpaste! for logs. Then this forum is going to be your friend :) Here: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Wgetpaste
In case change your make.conf, do you re-emerge your drivers before restart xorg?
Code:
emerge --update --deep --changed-use --with-bdeps y @world
or
Code:
 emerge -1 x11-base/xorg-drivers

Hello!

Thank you and sorry for the long paste!
Yes, every time the flags where changed, I've re-emerged everything, using:
Code:

emerge --update --changed-use --deep @world
emerge --depclean
revdep-rebuild
emerge --ask x11-base/xorg-drivers
emerge --ask x11-base/xorg-server

Should I use the command you've provided? Is there a difference that might impact my setup?

Thank you![/code]

Hm. This is the first time when I see

Code:

INPUT_DEVICES="libinput"

For modern Xorg usually
Code:

INPUT_DEVICES="evdev"

is sufficient. Possibly "synaptics" can be added if this is notebook with touchpad.

libinput is OK, it is the latest option for Xorg. I suspect there is something missing in kernel.

After setting the INPUT_DEVICES variable, an emerge -1avt @x11-module-rebuild should be enough.

Thank you very much!

My current knowledge is that libinput is advised (it is also mentioned in the handbook). I will now try with evdev.

If there is something missing in the kernel, should I look for a missing video module? My assumption is that from the input devices point of view the kernel is alright, as they both work in the console.

ajgentoo,

make friends with wgetpaste and give us the link to your kernel config.

I;ve finally made it! I generated a config file with
Code:

X -configure

[/code]

After that I've explicitly specified the input devices (which are as I would have expected - /dev/input/mouse0 does not work, I had to use /dev/input/event5)

Clearly I have yet to find the underlying issue, but at least I have a keyboard and a mouse :)

Thank you for the help!
