|
|
Hello,
today I tried to play something and realised I couldn't as alsa was not functioning at all. "speaker-test -c 2" played no sound.
Then I tested my speakers on the gentoo minimal install CD and it worked, so it's got to be something on my end.
My kernel should be fine as I have not touched its config in a while, but here is the relevan part:
Code: | CONFIG_SND=y
CONFIG_SND_TIMER=y
CONFIG_SND_PCM=y
CONFIG_SND_HWDEP=y
CONFIG_SND_JACK=y
CONFIG_SND_JACK_INPUT_DEV=y
CONFIG_SND_PCM_TIMER=y
CONFIG_SND_DYNAMIC_MINORS=y
CONFIG_SND_MAX_CARDS=32
CONFIG_SND_PROC_FS=y
CONFIG_SND_VMASTER=y
CONFIG_SND_DMA_SGBUF=y
CONFIG_SND_PCI=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_INTEL=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_HWDEP=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_BEEP=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_INPUT_BEEP_MODE=1
CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_SIGMATEL=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_CODEC_HDMI=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_GENERIC=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_POWER_SAVE_DEFAULT=0
CONFIG_SND_HDA_CORE=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_I915=y
CONFIG_SND_HDA_PREALLOC_SIZE=512 |
Here's the header of alsamixer:
Code: | │ Card: HDA Intel PCH F1: Help │
│ Chip: IDT 92HD91BXX F2: System information │
│ View: F3:[Playback] F4: Capture F5: All F6: Select sound card │
│ Item: Master [dB gain: 0.00] Esc: Exit |
lspci -nnk | grep -B2:
Code: | 00:1b.0 Audio device [0403]: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1e20] (rev 04)
Subsystem: Dell 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [1028:0578]
Kernel driver in use: snd_hda_intel |
/proc/asound/cards:
Code: | 0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf1610000 irq 28 |
NOTE: I recently installed fifrefox which pulled in pulseaudio. I later removed it, but now I wonder if pulseoudio messed anything up.
EDIT:
I started working again after remerging media-libs/alsa-lib.

did you try any older kernel as 4.12.4 ?
on my box the sound is randomly broken after a coldboot with kernels 4.12.5 and hda_intel. A warm reboot, or several warm reboots solves the issue here. Assuming you have the mixer levels correct for pulseaudio and your hardware mixers. They need to be both unmuted and set to a reasonable level! |

Sorry for the late reply, I had a very busy day.
amixer output
I have tried kernels 4.12.10 and 4.13.0. Neithre worked.
Currently I'm reading that thread on firefox and alsa.
Thnks in advance. |

Okay, this was a strange issue, but it is solved now. I just had to remerge alsa-lib. |
