Not really. The »CDC NCM support« ( CONFIG_USB_NET_CDC_NCM ) has already been included.

Thanks for the link. Searching like this of course was/is the first I did. In this case unfortunately it didn't show up the missing driver (but maybe, it isn't really missing). |

Did you mean the lines aound had changed the way the kernel modules load?
To me it's not even clear which of the driver(s) need to be modulesPresently I have them all built-in. |

So it's time for me to check where this laptop wants the sim card inserted and to get such sim card for testing. |
