I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting 3d acceleration working with xfree-4.3.99.902 and the 1.0.5332 nvidia drivers. I have an MSI K8T800 and a GeForce FX 5200. I tried the older 4499 drivers and they gave me a black screen. I've looked around but haven't found anything about this combination, so I figured I would ask before downgrading to 4.3 (although I am not 100% sure that doing so will fix the problem)...

With glxgears, I get around 500-600 fps and it doesn't seem to have much of an effect on the score whether I choose xfree or nvidia in opengl-update. My 800MHz iBook with Radeon Mobility 7500 gets higher scores, so I know this new machine should be doing better...

Here's what I have:

/etc/X11/XF86Config:
Code:

        Option      "NvAGP" "2"

/proc/driver/nvidia/agp/card:
Code:

Fast Writes:     Supported
SBA:             Supported
AGP Rates:       8x 4x
Registers:       0x1f000e1b:0x1f000312

/proc/driver/nvidia/agp/host-bridge:
Code:

Host Bridge:     PCI device 1106:3188 (VIA Technologies, In)
Fast Writes:     Supported
SBA:             Supported
AGP Rates:       8x 4x
Registers:       0x1f000a1b:0x00000b12

/proc/driver/nvidia/agp/status:
Code:

Status:          Enabled
Driver:          AGPGART
AGP Rate:        8x
Fast Writes:     Enabled
SBA:             Enabled

/proc/driver/nvidia/cards:
Code:

Model:           GeForce FX 5200
IRQ:             11
Video BIOS:      04.34.20.42.00
Card Type:       AGP

/proc/driver/nvidia/version:
Code:

NVRM version: NVIDIA Linux x86_64 NVIDIA Kernel Module  1.0-5332  Fri Jan  9 12:42:32 PST 2004
GCC version:  gcc version 3.3.2 20031218 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.2-r5, propolice-3.3-7)

Also, the messages on X startup look the same as on my 466MHz Celeron /nvidia TNT2 running the same xfree and same driver versions- no errors...[/code]

Well, yes, I have success, its working fine here,

glxgears ~3800

but as for your problem, I'm not sure, setup looks ok.

Try having this option set; and having no extra tweaks set as the driver is loaded;
Quote:

Option "NoRenderAccel" "On"

/etc/modules.d

Quote:

# Nvidia drivers support
alias char-major-195 nvidia
alias /dev/nvidiactl char-major-195

# To tweak the driver the following options can be used, note that
# you should be careful, as it could cause instability!!
#
# To enable Side Band Adressing: NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1
#
# To enable Fast Writes: NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1
#
# To enable both for instance, uncomment following line:
#
#options nvidia NVreg_EnableAGPSBA=1 NVreg_EnableAGPFW=1

Also, have you tried the nvidia forum for the amd64 driver?

edit: Its here http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=53808b0da9d1c2c646fded208ceae141&threadid=23864

Looks like others are having similar troubles ....

Thanks for the reply and the link to the nvidia forums! I tried turning off RenderAccel and disabling/enabling a bunch of other options, but I still haven't gotten it fully working yet and haven't spent as much time as I would like working on it because of school. I will keep you guys posted, though.
