I think that the Gentoo main site http://www.gentoo.org just went down.
It is 1:56pm EST.

I couldn't get there either for about an hour or two today, I mentioned it on irc channel, but no one seemed to care.

I can't emerge rsync

>>> starting rsync with rsync://cvs.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage...
rsync: failed to connect to cvs.gentoo.org: Connection refused
rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at clientserver.c(89)

Use this instead, it's alot faster also:
Code:

SYNC="rsync://rsync2.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-x86-portage"

They probably did an "emerge --update apache" and it hosed their configs... :wink:

I update my /etc/make.conf file to the above mentioned rsync mirror but i got the following error...

bash-2.05a# emerge rsync
>>> starting rsync with rsync://rsync2.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-x86-portage...
receiving file list ...
12678 files to consider
app-crypt/gnupg/
app-crypt/gnupg/ChangeLog
Warning: unexpected read size of -857406828 in map_ptr
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (282910 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(151)
bash-2.05a#

What could be causing this and how can i fix it. I also tried the Norway server and the same thing happened. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Nevermind, got help off IRC and solved problem. :)

When you fix a problem prolific it would be nice if you posted the solution so others with the same issue could resolve them, not telling you what to do just trying to be helpful.

This line is wrong:
rsync://rsync2.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-x86-portage...

Change with this:
rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage

No that line is fine, it may change in the future but as of now it works either way.
These all work:
Code:

RSYNC://rsync2.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-x86-portage
RSYNC://rsync2.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage
RSYNC://rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage

Word of advice pacman, check the facts before telling someone there wrong ;)

Yes they all work. I believe that rsync.us.gentoo.org is set up to do load-balancing (round-robin DNS) between rsync2.us and rsync1.no or something like that. So you are best off using rsync.us.gentoo.org, IMHO.

Well, as it stands, rsync.gentoo.org is a load-balancer from what I gather. So, for the long run, rsync.gentoo.org is best.

Might want to take a peek at https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=2051 if you still have problems, or are using an older version of portage.

It's not Gentoo, it's either IP config or route.

:lol:
