Mi succede questa strana cosa:
con lo start automatico al boot di xdm, ottenuto con:

il sistema fa apparire uno schermo nero e va in freeze
Il sistema invece funziona senza lo start automatico di xdm.
Attualmente, quindi, per usare Gentoo, devo fare il login da terminale come root e far partire xdm manualmente con

A cosa può essere dovuto questo strano fenomeno? |

Ora ho delle informazioni più precise. Il comportamento di xdm varia a seconda del kernel che lancio:
- con il kernel 4.9.34-gentoo il sistema va in freeze e mi tocca spegnerlo.
- con il nuovo kernel appena installato 4.12.5-gentoo il sistema si avvia regolarmente
- con il kernel vanilla 4.4.81 va in crash soltanto xdm e produce i seguenti errori:

Sembra che non funzionino i driver nvidia. Si compilano normalmente quando sei sul kernel 4.4.81? Perche' non vuoi il kernel 4.12.5?

nvidia-drivers si compila su qualunque kernel dei 3 menzionati.
Non è che non voglia il kernel 4.12.5, che sto utilizzando in questo momento. Mi piacerebbe capire qual è il problema con gli altri kernel. Soprattutto perchè ho un sistema multiboot dove ho anche Funtoo stable e Funtoo current, l'uno con il kernel 4.4 e l'altro con il 4.9 che non manifestano lo stesso problema. |

Se cerchi di caricarlo a mano con modprobe il modulo che errore ti da? Nel kernel hai tolto il supporto a Nouveau?

Nel kernel 4.9.34-gentoo, andando in freeze il sistema non è possibile fare nulla se non spegnere il computer.
Ricordo inoltre che togliendo l'avvio automatico del servizio xdm e lanciandolo manualmente il server grafico funziona regolarmente: il problema è il non funzionamento del server X quando il servizio xdm è lanciato in automatico da openrc (vedi post di apertura).
Ribadisco che si tratta di uno strano fenomeno |

Per tutti i nuovi kernel, una volta compilati e installati, eseguo:

Questa versione raccomanda (a meno che tu non usi qualche patch) la versione di kernel inferiore alla 4.12
Però la sto utilizzando anche io sul 4.12 senza nessun errore.

quindi
nvidia-drivers-381.22 + kernel-4.12.x = OK
nvidia-drivers-381.22 + kernel-4.9.34 = Freeze
nvidia-drivers-381.22 + kernel-vanilla-4.4.81 = Crash+xdm
Hai provato l'update dei drivers all'ultima stabile ? 384.59-r1 ?
