I have a bit of a strange issue. A few 3D games are running bizarrely slowly on my computer.
It's not a hardware problem, the games I have tried seem to run fine on my old Arch installation on the same device.
The games I have tried so far are Garry's Mod from Steam and Minetest.
Is there some sort of USE flag for a sort of 3D rendering I forgot? Sorry but I'm a bit of a n00b and I don't know much yet.

There's many things that are needed to ensure the GPU is enabled.

First thing to try is running

Code:
$ glxinfo|grep render

This should be a good indication of current status.

What is your hardware and what is your VIDEO_CARDS set to in /etc/{portage/}make.conf?

Also what is your setup like? Are you running consolekit or systemd or neither? Perhaps

Code:
$ emerge --info

would tell a little more about your setup.

Ok, the output of
Code:
glxinfo|grep render
is:
Code:
libGL error: failed to open drm device: Permission denied
libGL error: failed to load driver: i965
direct rendering: Yes
    GLX_MESA_multithread_makecurrent, GLX_MESA_query_renderer,
    GLX_MESA_multithread_makecurrent, GLX_MESA_query_renderer,
Extended renderer info (GLX_MESA_query_renderer):
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 3.9, 256 bits)
    GL_ARB_conditional_render_inverted, GL_ARB_conservative_depth,
    GL_NV_conditional_render, GL_NV_depth_clamp, GL_NV_packed_depth_stencil,
    GL_ARB_conditional_render_inverted, GL_ARB_conservative_depth,
    GL_NV_conditional_render, GL_NV_depth_clamp, GL_NV_fog_distance,
    GL_OES_element_index_uint, GL_OES_fbo_render_mipmap,

And the output of
Code:
emerge --info
:
Code:

Also, I don't have a GPU, I use Intel's integrated graphics. I know it's a bad setup for gaming but it always worked pretty well and Minetest ran with very little lag.
Thanks!

Ok, I've added myself to group video with the command
Code:
sudo gpasswd -a kdg video
and I'm still getting the same error.
Should I re-emerge the libdrm package?

You need to logout and log back in when changing your group membership. Or you can newgrp video.

I wanted to know whether you were using a plain setup, consolekit, or systemd as doing this group change may or may not have been the right solution. If you

Code:
$ ls -l /dev/dri

you'll see what you need to have access to, to access the GPU features.

It looks like you do have some of consolekit set up, this means that perhaps you didn't get a consolekit session setup. After logging in,
ck-list-sessions should report your current login... if it's still empty your consolekit is not setup right.

Yes the intel CGC or on-die graphics controllers are still GPUs in my books.

Just be aware what you did is not exactly the "proper" solution if you're using consolekit but nevertheless will work, it's fine if you're the only user of your computer.
