Hi all,
today I got an update for various KDE packages from 5.8.6 to 5.9.5 and, if it is relevant, yesterday I got an update from various QT packages from 5.6.2 to 5.7.1.

After the update I logged off and back in from KDE and I immediately noticed that instead of the regular Breeze splash screen I got a black screen with just the KDE logo (the same for the K Menu in the picture below) - beside that the loading was not problematic.

Once logged in, I noticed that the programs I have pinned on the main bar are missing the icon (showing a generic one instead) - here a screenshot: http://imgur.com/a/sGE7M - it happens only on the bar, on the K Menu and systray they are showing correctly.

I tried to change icon set (from Breeze Dark to KFaenza) from SystemSettings (and log off and back in of course) to see if it was just a caching problem, but the problem persist.

I don't know if it is relevant, but after yesterday updates since there was an update for Xorg too, I actually restarted SDDM instead of simply login off/on from KDE (and I had no issue after that), while after today's update I just logged off/on from KDE

Here it is the list of KDE packages update today:

I don't think kfaenza is providing you with anything complete for modern Plasma. Switch back to breeze dark, problem still persists? Try with a new user.

Hi Asturm,
thank for your answer.

Kfaenza indeed never provided the full array of icons, but at least provided most of them and in this case it is providing none; beside, even reverting to Breeze Dark don't show any icon.

I tried with a new user and the icons problem disappeared, but the the splash screen remained.

I have been able to solve the panel icons problem by right-click them, select "Properties", and manually re-selecting the right icon (any new shortcut I add to the panel immediately get the right icon and, as I said, the K Menu seems unaffected by the problem); therefore I assume the problem was caused by a corrupted user-specific config file.

For the splash screen the problem persist; I tried to switch to Oxygen and it works, but if I switch back to Breeze the problem persist; it is just a minor inconvenience as it is purely cosmetic and beside, I usually stay logged in for days, but a solution would be nice.

I'm not sure what problem you have with the splash screen - it's the splash screen, that's what it looks like. Change it in the systemsettings if you don't like it.

The icon issue is weird, but I'd file it under strange things that can happen when updating Plasma from within a running session.

As I mention is not a big deal as it is just cosmetic and I see it very rarely (as I keep open sessions for days) and maybe it is my memory that is playing a trick on me (since I watched it very rarely), but as I remember before the update it showed the regular K logo with the classic "loading circle" animation below it while now it show the same logo you can see for the K menu on the screenshot on my original post without the "loading circle" animation (and it is this second part that stroke me - the change of logo is fine).

Again, it is a no-issue since it has no practical impact, but I thought it still was worth to report.

Ah, I see what you mean now. I might have seen that on a machine I don't have access to right now.

I had the same problem. I resolved it by right clicking on each icon and going to properties and Saving them. The correct icons re-appeared. No idea it went wrong - had not been a problem on previous update of plasma.

I have to report that I had a full report (due to a system freeze - lost any log so I don't what caused it) and the "loading circle" reappeared.
