Hi. I have tried to find an answer I cannot find.

I tried these threads:
SA: System Administration
FO3: Why doesn't forum search return useful results?
Gentoo forum search sucks

buuuut...the unanswered question of mine is, with what frequency do the forum get indexed?

[edit] The the forums' defence, the last forum ( of about 14 pages ) I did the first 3 to look for it. I endure just as much.

You don't realise. The admins are higher beings. The are the higher step between humanity and machine. A soul without a body. An intellect without compassion.

Also your question should be in Gentoo Forums Feedback

I've obviously been mastered by a bipedal creature stemmed from stardom.
Thank you, cokey...for the laughter.

[edit] and the guidance, as vague it may be

How?

Google it.

indexed by whom?

uh, a timed peroid check? And..really, manually? Is that necessary? Re-indexing dokuwiki makes wonders, though I can only do so manually at work.
Damn, if it's a database driven, index it and make a analyze now and then. I would do it! Like each friday or such.

I've looked through the administrative control panel and there doesn't seem to be an accessible setting that controls this interval.

What I really tried to say is that it's a good thing to check those tables before trying to optimize them.
But, I don't know more than so. I thought they needed some man power, and I could step up and do what ever there is to be done, if so.
Just an idea..

You'd make fine admin, except nobody can tell whether you're sane or not.

How is an admin to be in an ever developing environment? Lets remove and replace stuff. That'd do it.
BTW I see myself as if I was the last man on the earth and no other solution left. Not the inevitable one.
EDIT: The last resort kind. Like that guy in Resistance II

Funny guy...I.Think.NOT! /joke,. If there is a procedure to be done, I'll do it with A+...effort. We could ftp the db and I could do my db magic...
It's a constellation of synergy with some compromise on both sides when we can come together to a solution we both like. (hehe)

See what I mean? You can't tell whether the guy is sane or not. Is it just the language barrier, or is he maybe deeply disturbed and largely irrational? Your guess is as good as mine.

A tip is to make index fields with INT unsigned (no minus allowed). I've seen this increase the search efficiency by a factor of 2.

Another fyi:
How many fields is there to search for? And when you get hits on the word 'Kuksug' something is terrible.

I have an app with about 5 mil + posts and search criteria: Salary code, Personal number, From and To date. A response within 2 seconds the most. 2500 posts are the limit o/c.
Therefore I feel, master race OS, gentoo forum has to be upgraded. This is a laughable matter.

We're starting to work on that again. There's been some attrition of key personnel on the Forum side and we've had to regroup. If you want to help, I, at least, wasn't joking. Going to the trouble to becoming a developer will give you the domain knowledge of how the Gentoo infrastructure works so that you can effectively contribute—and will allow us to feel that it's safe to let you contribute: that you won't egregiously break thinks through ignorance.

I can see your avatar speaks volumes :)

But seriously, a thing I've seen is BBS...or what it's called, in version 3.1+ has an extension for search indexing. Maybe there are something else wired wrong with that version o/c. What do I know.

I am not a good reader of words. I must tell you. When I see a problem that I feel I can do better, I usually get interested by it. If I am not in control of how to fix it, I cannot see myself participate. Sorry.

One more tip though. PHP is extremely fast if you catch all output before printing it.
