Hello, I'm trying to install Gentoo on my ASUS laptop from a USB stick, but when I boot the screen becomes all black and I get "Machine Check Error" written on the top left. I googled the error, but I couldn't find any solutions (some people talked about disabling intel virtualization technology, but for me it didn't work). Anyone got a similar experience? |

Dionysus,
Welcome to Gentoo.
Does the Machine Check Error happen regardless of the USB stick being connected or not? _________________ Regards,

Thanks, happy to be here and anxious to install gentoo.
If I boot from USB, I get the error. If not, the pc boots into my arch linux. So yes, the problem is the USB. Maybe this could be helpful: I created USB stick with dd. |

Dionysus,
How well creating a USB stick from an ISO with dd works is variable.
Instead of asking for lots of details, I'll offer a simple test.
Get System Rescue CD and either use the provided script or follow the manual way to put it on your USB stick.
Its Gentoo based, it lets you follow the Gentoo handbook to perform your install, it has an optional GUI, so you can read the handbook and so on, while you install and more.
One important detail, it works with UEFI, unlike the Gentoo minimal CD.
Can you boot System Rescue CD from your USB? _________________ Regards,

I don't know why but the usb started working after executing on my archlinux: Code: | isohybrid install-amd64*.iso | , then I copied it on the stick with dd. Problem solved, but thanks anyway! |
