Fails and prevents deep world from completion. Goes on forever that's why I interrupted.

Error appears at each instance and seems to find no end where I actually could say it fails.
I just aborted at this point; tried to let it run twice without aborting but it seemed to run like this forever
always with this mysterious error message.
I did find similar issues with qtwebengine on the forums but no solution that worked there changed
anything here. |

how long did you wait? qtwebengine takes some 40 minutes to
compile on my i7-6700 ... _________________ .... there is nothing - absolutely nothing - half so much worth

"goes on forever" is not a bug unless you define "forever" and describe your hardware; when there's an error there is also a build.log to look it up. |

Point taken. It compiles through but the error message looks suspicious.
May be I should not just ignore it ?
I recently updated to gcc 5.4.0, wanted to do a deep world. No other package
shows any sign of eye-catching errors except for qtwebengine.
I hoped anyone could shed some light on it ... nevermind. |

What error message? You didn't show any except your own user interruption? |

Code: | # genlop -t qtwebengine |

Code: | $ sudo emerge --ask --depclean qtwebengine |

Are you guys blind?
Code: | <command-line>:0:0: warning: "_FORTIFY_SOURCE" redefined |
@josephg
Quote: | if you never asked for qtwebengine, remove it |
It was pulled.
@mir3x
and that concerns me how?
Seriously, this here is a kindergarten |

Why should *we* guess what *warning* you are getting at while speaking about an *error*? |

Starting at line 121, keeps repeating during the whole compile process;
Code: | <command-line>:0:0: warning: "_FORTIFY_SOURCE" redefined
<built-in>: note: this is the location of the previous definition |
Never appeared in any compilation ever.
I mistakenly believed people would skim the paste: the error is all over the place. |

@transsib: You must to let stop compilation yourself and then post build.log _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

They most likely have acceptable eyesight, although with modern accessibility technologies, it's not implausible that a blind volunteer might help you. Is it relevant whether they are using an assistive technology?

It was pulled. | If you do not need it, emerge --depclean will let you remove it. If you do need it, emerge --depclean --verbose will explain why you need it. Alternately, you could package.mask it, emerge --unmerge it, and see what breaks.
transsib wrote: | Seriously, this here is a kindergarten | I disagree, but even if you were right, that would not justify rude responses to good faith attempts to help you.
I concur with Jaglover. The only error I see is that you killed it early. You may have had reason to think it would never end, but I see nothing in the output that confirms it would never make progress on its own. |

PEBKAC, plain as day.
If you don't want to see warnings in compiler output then add -Werror to your CFLAGS and fix them upstream. Should only take 30 years or so to build @system that way. |

A lot of software gives compiler warnings. Some are genuine warnings, others are where the compiler does not understand what the programmer is doing and posts a warning erroneously. Don't sweat warnings. Worry about it when it errors out. _________________ Ever picture systemd as what runs "The Borg"? |
