Hi,
I experience nasty screen flicker since the emerge of gnome 3.22 a few weeks ago.

To date, I did not find out whats wrong. It seems that the shell, gnome terminal and firefox are more hurt than for instance chromium

Code:
 # emerge --info

I have nvidia-drivers enabled: /usr/portage/x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers/nvidia-drivers-378.13.ebuild

I have no idea what could possibly be wrong...

Same here.

Windows are constantly refreshing in what appears to be three different sizes. If I move a window about, the content becomes steady, but as soon as I hover over a button (e.g. in this reply screen) content starts flickering at a high rate. Typical: the smilies here on the left that are animated are moving extremely fast. Some kind of timer issue?

Phew...

Managed to revert back to 3.20. Lucky I create bin packages. Definitely caused by Gnome 3.22.

interesting to hear, sonds very similar to my box here. Are you on nividia-drivers?
With another box that uses intel graphics, all is well with gnome 3.22

Yes, I am on Nvidia drivers. Haven't had time yet to investigate any further because the updates I ran yesterday also caused my vmware virtual machines only to run in the background. Only just managed to fix that.

Reverting to 375.39 was the first thing I did. No change. I suspect x11-wm/mutter myself but currently can't afford to experiment with this machine.

Confirmed (more or less)

Mutter requires gnome-shell to be the same x.yy version though. If you have 3.20 and 3.22 in either combination there is no screen at all and after some time a segfault is returned:
Code:
gnome-session-f[682]: segfault at 0 ip 00007f294472bcc9 sp 00007fffa718eb90 error 4 in libgtk-3.so.0.2200.11[7f2944449000+701000]

And solved :D

Apparently I changed something before to fix a display issue with a previous version of gnome and this is now causing issues. Need to go into /etc/environment and remove (or comment) the line ‘CLUTTER_PAINT=disable-clipped-redraws:disable-culling´
