Hi Guys,

Has anyone run into this problem below? and if so, what would you recommend in solving these conflicts.

Conflict 1. [blocks b ] x11-plugins/enigmail ("x11-plugins/enigmail" is blocking mail-client/thunderbird-45.7.0) :?
--- This could be related to keying being installed? possibly, but i'm not sure.
Code:

[I] gnome-base/gnome-keyring
     Available versions:  3.20.0 {+caps +filecaps pam selinux +ssh-agent test}
Installed versions:  3.20.0(11:10:57 21/02/17)(caps filecaps pam ssh-agent -selinux -test)
     Homepage:            https://wiki.gnome.org/Projects/GnomeKeyring
Description:         Password and keyring managing daemon

Conflict 2. [blocks B ] <x11-drivers/xf86-video-virtualbox-5.1.14 ("<x11-drivers/xf86-video-virtualbox-5.1.14" is blocking x11-base/xorg-drivers-1.19) 8O

--- I've done a little searching and the only thing i can possibly point this to is the kernel version having a problem with with both driver packages.

Kernel Version on my system:
Code:

~ $ uname -a
Linux lw510gen 4.4.39-gentoo #1 SMP Tue Feb 14 21:09:42 GMT 2017 x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

While running @world update
Code:

~ $ sudo emerge -uvDNa @world

It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously.  If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously. You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.

For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

Any helps on this would be much appreciated guys! :)

@fedeliallalinea,

Thanks for the prompt response. I'll give this a go later to day and hopefully it should resolve the problem. Its a little unfortunate that the version of virtualbox is still in warning status.

Again thanks for getting back to me SO soon!

I had the same issues and I tried that with problems.

I put
Code:
=app-emulation/virtualbox-modules-5.1.14 ~amd64
=app-emulation/virtualbox-extpack-oracle-5.1.14 ~amd64
=app-emulation/virtualbox-5.1.14 ~amd64
in /etc/portage/package.accept-keywords

If I emerge virtualbox, it installs Vbox and the modules. As soon as I try to emerge the extpack, it wants to install an earlier version of the extpack and downgrade Vbox and the modules????

The reason why is it wanting to use an earlier version of virtualbox-extpack is because you don't have the full version correct, it should be 5.1.14.112924 instead of 5.1.14.

Otherwise, virtualbox-5.1.6 was put in portage on the 9th if you want to use that version. For that extpack, it should have this version 5.1.16.113841.

I ran into this as well. This always seems to happen to those of us running stable systems when xorg-server changes version. Not only virtualbox, but tigervnc is bound to specific xorg versions, and those are still ~amd64. Would be nice if this was more coordinated, since I run a stable system to avoid situations like this.

@engineermdr - i completely agree, i have to say its very annoying - still haven't got round to this i may downgrade to virtualbox 4.3.38 and see how that goes. virtualbox 5.0.32 "clearly isn't stable" with xorg-server.............

There is some information flying around that you actually don't need xf86-video-virtualbox, but that since VBox 5.0, things should work nicely with the modesetting driver (as found inside xorg-server package itself). Those preferring to stick with 5.0 for now (as 5.1 has some other issues which is why it hasn't been moved to the stable version yet or something) might want to try that and report back. That is, doing this without xf86-video-virtualbox at all and seeing if it's same speed or whatnot.

Hello,

I'm having exactly the same problem, except that I'm trying to install Gentoo in VirtualBox with Windwos as Host.
What did you mean when you were saying

I think I should install newer version of virtualbox-guest-addition even though it's not stable. But I have no idea how to install an unstable package. Could you please help me with that?

I have a Gentoo guest with macOS as host, but I think it's the same deal here. What worked for me was to add "~" keyword.

Code:
/etc/portage/package.keywords
    app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions ~amd64
    x11-drivers/xf86-video-virtualbox ~amd64

This results in installing 5.1.22 even though 5.0.32 is the latest stable version (at the time of writing). Afterwards, no more blocked package.

You might want to keep your eyes on the packages, so that when 5.1.22 becomes stable later, you can remove the entries in "/etc/portage/package.keywords".

If you want to enable a specific version, but not stay on unstable indefinitely, you can use a version-qualified keyword change. To do so, change the entries in package.accept_keywords to:
/etc/portage/package.accept_keywords:
# Enable testing versions of 5.1.22 and any Gentoo revision bumps, but do not proceed to 5.1.23 or later without further user interaction.
~app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions-5.1.22
~x11-drivers/xf86-video-virtualbox-5.1.22
This will become obsolete when newer versions move to stable, but will not cause you to follow the unstable tree beyond the specified version.

We should seriously consider putting the "like" button in this forum.
