So bottom line is that PA is not working for me. Look here https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-1060184-highlight-.html for more information.

What can I do? How can I get PA to show me -any- kind error logging? How can I resolve this issue? If I can't resolve this then how do I go about removing PA without breaking my build? Are there alternatives to PA beside Jack?

I don't even know what the right questions to ask are, But I know I need to ask questions because we live in a modern world wherew modern computers need working audio solutions, and OBVIOUSLY PA doesn't fit the bill.

What package in your system requires PA? Why you need a sound server?

I don't know, do I need a sound server? Would the sound system function without a sound server? I have a USB microphone, which has it's own chipset and I had assumed PA or Jack would be needed to make it work, but I have no idea really.

Plain ALSA can do it for you.

PulseAudio has always been an overhyped flaky mess in my experience, and very few people actually need it. If you want to do any kind of serious recording work you definitely don't want PA, you'd be far better off with ALSA + JACK although almost certainly you'll be fine with just plain ALSA.

The only caveat on that is Firefox - in typical Mozilla fashion they've decided that ALSA isn't worth supporting directly and are going to require PulseAudio from here on. My solution has been to ditch Firefox for Pale Moon ( there's an overlay ) and I'm happy I did - Mozilla have been self-harming in a major way for years now and it's good not to have to deal with the effects of their constant stupid decisions any more.

Start by getting plain ALSA to work and if you really need fancy audio routing control then add JACK.

PulseAudio is only needed for Bluetooth things. Everything else (except high-end firewire audio hardware, which JACK handles) can be done using ALSA/apulse.

Pulseaudio is not even needed for Bluetooth things.
Code:
media-sound/bluez-alsa
is working fine with Bluetooth audio.
