Hello, GDM never shows my login; I have to click on Not Listed? and enter my id. My UID is 573 and no I'm not changing it. Is there any way to get GDM 3.22.1 to list users with UIDs greater than say 500? I've done some investigation and different versions of GDM do this differently but one factor is that it only offers logins of UID > 1000,

Hello.
Provided you don't want to change UID, you may get a look here. Up to you to decide between IncludeAll=false and Include=mounty solutions.

Neither works. IncludeAll=true just takes gdm straight to the username input, skipping the not listed? step. Include=mounty, with or without IncludeAll=true just goes to the Not listed? screen. | /etc/gdm/custom.conf: | # GDM configuration storage

Doesn't work. Enough of this. Next on the list to try: Cinnamon.
Thanks all for your answers but it's clear to me that GNOME is disappearing up its own fundament. Maybe it is controlled by a covert team from Microsoft.
Coming in GNOME 3.26: gdm is entirely removed. Users ask "how do you log in?". GNOME design team pretends that this is a stupid question but eventually concedes that you could do it by writing your own graphical session manager application, if this is something that you really want to do.
