|
|
Hi,
when I try and open a pdf with acroread it just gets stuck and I can see some ugly artifacts near the menu bar. This is probably related to the message you get when merging acroread
Quote: |
* If you find that Adobe Reader doesn't match your desktop's theme, you
* may want to re-emerge the relevant gtk theme package with
* USE="abi_x86_32" enabled. |
but I don't know what that means for me since I don't even use gnome (hence I don't have most of the gtk stuff). When I run
I see that "Clearlooks" is selected but there is no package for gtk2 clearlooks.
Any clues?
Cheers. |

I think clear looks comes in the X11-themes/gnome-themes-standard package |

acoread is hard masked for this reason

It's not a good idea install this program _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

Try moving your ~/.adobe/Acrobat directory to ~/.adobe/Acrobat.junk
It was painful, but `strace acroread` (had to bail to a console to kill that) shows me failed attempts to open files in ...
~/.cursors/Adwaita
~/.icons/Adwaita
/usr/local/share/cursors/xorg-x11/Adwaita
/usr/local/share/{cursors,icons,pixmaps}/Adwaita
I run fvwm for a WM, no gnome, some gtk of course, and gtk-engines-adwaita is installed as a dependency of gtk+-2.24.31. No gtk+-3.x installed.
All shots in the dark by the way. Just giving you an idea of where I would start if I was having the symptoms you describe. |

Thanks for all your replies.
I think I'm gonna go with fedeliallalinea's advice and get rid of Acrobat for good. I didn't know that it was hard masked and, anyway, I always found it quite ugly and slow Evince seems to work just fine, so I'll just use that whenever okular fails.
Cheers. |

Acroread seems to be the only program that can handle my car workshop manual (it came on a DVD). It seems to have a main "table of contents" pdf that somehow links to separate documents for each chapter. There's also a big index file. I only know about the simple pdf files you can create with things like libreoffice or routing web-page printout to a pdf file; this DVD is in a different league.
Okular only shows the table of contents; the links to the chapter documents don't work, and neither does the index. I'd be very grateful if anyone could tell me how to read this sort of thing without Acroread? _________________ Greybeard |
