|
|
Health be upon you, i am trying to install vmware tools, as mentioned, on a gentoo workstation on esxi. I already clicked install vmware tools on esxi and went ahead to:
Code: | emerge vmware-tools |
I get an error massage and nothing gets installed:
Code: | * You should set VMWARE_GUEST in make.conf to specify which operating systems you need. |
I tried adding :
Code: | VMWARE_GUEST="linux" |
to make.conf but that didn't help. I also tried some more exotic key words but obviously it didn't work.
I read on the web that rc directories must be created in /etc/init.d and the cdrom must be mounted... is that all still necessary?
What is the proper procedure to install vmware-tools nowadays?
Thanks for any help! |

Description: VMware Tools for guest operating systems |
Try to set vmware_guest_linux in use flag variable, or in make.conf or via /etc/portage/package.use _________________ Questions are guaranteed in life; Answers aren't. |

Thank you very much for your solution, now the operating system was able to download the tools and it said it installed them in
Code: | Install vmware-tools-9.9.4.3206955 into /var/tmp/portage/app-emulation/vmware-tools-9.9.4.3206955/image/ category app-emulation |
but when I go to this location, there is no folder app-emulation and in init.d there is no deamon vmware-tools to start.
any idea of what to do? |
