Hi guys Im trying to run cydiaimpactor http://www.cydiaimpactor.com on a stable amd64 system

When I try to run the file from the terminal im told:
Code:
~/impactor $ ./Impactor
./Impactor: error while loading shared libraries: /lib64/libncurses.so.5: file too short

Here is my ncurses info
Code:
emerge -av ncurses
Password:

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild   R    ] sys-libs/ncurses-6.0-r1:0/6::gentoo  USE="cxx unicode -ada -debug -doc -gpm -minimal -profile -static-libs {-test} -threads -tinfo -trace" ABI_X86="32 (64) (-x32)" 0 KiB

Total: 1 package (1 reinstall), Size of downloads: 0 KiB

Im confused and looking for a fix because I need to jailbreak my phone :D

Sucks when you have to use binary-only software, doesn't it?

ncurses5 got deprecated and that binary requires ncurses5.

I don't know about the compatibility of the ncurses5 and ncurses6 ABI as I've had trouble with this recently. You might have to build the ncurses5 binary and use that in a chroot, or run this whole package in a VM...

Thanks for the reply.I suppose with binary packages they can't make every distro work.I was thinking of going down the VM route if there wasn't a fix because it's not something I'll need to open very often.

ncurses are slotted (version 5 and 6 can coexist) try to install version 5 with command
Code:
# emerge sys-libs/ncurses:5/5

Strange, I don't know why it was such a PITA to upgrade ncurses5 to ncurses6 if it was perfectly slotted. Perhaps there was a bad version of the ebuild when I ncurses6 stabilized... Urk.

Oh well, good thing it's fixed now.

After successfully jailbreaking my iphone I decided I would make a follow up post for anybody else wanting to use cydiaimpactor to jailbreak an iphone on gentoo:

To make cydiaimpactor run, besides needing to
Code:
# emerge sys-libs/ncurses:5/5
(thank you to fedeliallalinea) I also needed to

Code:
emerge sys-libs/libudev-compat

Then I could not drag the ipa onto the program until I followed this setup guide in the wiki

https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Apple_iPod,_iPad,_iPhone

After following the steps in the above guide cydiaimpactor detected my phone and worked perfectly.

You need to use the latest version of Cydia impactor. Download it from https://cydiaimpactor.online/.
