My virtualbox guest windows act really wonky, even with the most recent "Virtualbox addons" installed in the guests.(virtualb0x-5.1.12 currently, but the problem is not new to this version).
When you start a vm the window appears normal then immediately proceeds to collapse on itself vertically. It leaves you with a very short and wide screen. For example, when running an ubuntu guest, the only thing you can see is the top menu bar.
Using an ubuntu guest is not a big deal. You can just drag the window frame to get the full height and it stays there.
Windows guests are another story. Every screen resolution change, login screen, and switch to desktop after logging in re-collapses the window. Then when you try to resize the window it flickers and collapses again.
The only option is to run full-screen, which makes it a huge pain to flip back and forth out of full screen to access the Devices menu for the guest. Programs tend to crash and or hang frequently during these changes.
I'm running WindowMaker with no kde/gnome environment. Maybe it is a WM issue.
Has anyone else run across this problem?
I've always been wanting to learn more about kvm. Maybe now is a good time.

Are-you sure that the guest is running the VirtualBox Xorg driver and that the VirtualBox Linux guest modules are loaded? _________________ Paul |

Windows 10 guest says it is using the virtualbox driver. Something like VirtualBox Guest driver forWindows 8+, version 5.1.12.0.
XP guest is no longer usable. Unable to resize the desktop. Resizing the guest window results in a lot of black space with still just a ~1280x20 bar for the viewable desktop. No amount of messing with "View" options helps. The resize options are either greyed out or do nothing useful.
Ubuntu guest is using the vboxvideo driver as well. |
