Dear All
I have a Dell 1600n printer/scanner connected to my computers via LAN. I had no problems setting up CUPS but SANE behaves in a very strange way.
When I start xsane, it detects the device flawlessly: http://imgur.com/3hv9ICX
However when I click on Scan, the application seems to freeze and does not do anything, regardless if I run it as root or regular user. All the controlls become inactive and I have to temrinate the process.
There is also a difference in the output of scnaimage -L and scanimage -A
Code: |
scanimage -L
device `v4l:/dev/video0' is a Noname Laptop_Integrated_Webcam_HD virtual device
device `dell1600n_net:192.168.1.102' is a Dell Laser MFP 1600n multi-function peripheral
|
Code: |
scnaimage -A
All options specific to device `v4l:/dev/video0':
Scan Mode:
--mode Gray|Color [Gray]
Selects the scan mode (e.g., lineart, monochrome, or color).
--channel Camera 1 [inactive]
Selects the channel of the v4l device (e.g. television or video-in.
Geometry:
-l 0..607pel (in steps of 1) [inactive]
Top-left x position of scan area.
-t 0..391pel (in steps of 1) [inactive]
Top-left y position of scan area.
-x 160..767pel (in steps of 1) [inactive]
Width of scan-area.
-y 120..511pel (in steps of 1) [inactive]
Height of scan-area.
Enhancement:
--brightness 0..255 [128]
Controls the brightness of the acquired image.
--hue 0..255 [128]
Controls the "hue" (blue-level) of the acquired image.
--color 0..255 [163]
Sets the picture's color.
--contrast 0..255 [0]
Controls the contrast of the acquired image.
--white-level 0..255 [0]
Selects what radiance level should be considered "white".

As you can see scanimage -A only displays attributes for the webcam built in to my laptop and does not show anything for the actual scanner.
Any suggestions anyone? |

First of all, scanimage -A may not show your device because you may need to add --device='dell1600n_net:192.168.1.102' to the command line.
Try the following command to manually scan your document into a ppm file.
Code: | scanimage --device='dell1600n_net:192.168.1.102' > outputfilename.ppm |
See if that will produce a ppm image of your document. That will rule out the hardware being the problem. |

No go After I press the enter key nothing happens, the scanner does not react. I did however manage to find a perl script on the internet that makes it possible to trigger scans from the device and sned the via ethernet to the computer on which the script is listening, so I at least have some sort of scanning capability And this I think also rules out the hardware error? |
